Yugoslavia, here we come!

In September 1992, Punishment Park and Agent 86 crossed into Serbia for concerts in Novi Sad and Belgrade. We arrived with a van full of instruments and spare fuel, unsure what the border would bring, and found audiences and hosts who made the journey possible.

After Lyon, we crossed Austria and Hungary in our old red Mercedes. We carried spare diesel because we had been warned that fuel was hard to find in Serbia. At the border we were stopped and questioned. Our promoter, Dragan-Gale, eventually arrived and helped get us on our way.

The concerts were in cities away from the fighting. In Novi Sad on 16 September, a large crowd came to see us. The next day we played a sold-out show in a university courtyard in Belgrade and appeared on TV Politika with Michelle Orgill from Agent 86. People arranged food and places to stay and welcomed us into their lives. We had gone there to play punk rock, and came home with memories of the people who had helped us do it.
