Rockedrømmen Chapter 14
England and the Italian mafia
An English retelling from Kjell Moberg's manuscript.
JEF crossed to England with Greenland Whalefishers in 2004 and travelled to Italy the following year. Alongside those tours, friendships with Chinese musicians opened a new possibility: taking our band to China in 2006.
Jef contributed six tracks to Punk in Disguise vol. 1, then travelled by ferry to England with Greenland Whalefishers in June 2004. We played The 1 in 12 Club in Bradford and Royal George in Birmingham, dealt with a cancelled South Shields show, and finished at Hartlepool’s converted church club. We played to a sold-out room in Leeds.
In February 2005 we flew to Italy to play with Derozer and fitted ourselves and our equipment into a tiny Fiat. The Florence show was sold out, while the Rome show fell through. Later, contact with SMZB’s Wuwei and SUBS’ Kang Mao led to an invitation for Jef to tour China in 2006. We had little precedent, discussed the risks, and decided to prepare.
