Rockedrømmen Chapter 02

The awakening: the late ’70s and the wide-open ’80s

An English retelling from Kjell Moberg's manuscript.

A homemade guitar and bedroom concerts were my first steps towards a life in music. At Os Rock Klubb I found people to play with, formed my first bands and eventually shared a bill with the musicians we looked up to.

In the late seventies and early eighties, I made a Kiss-shaped guitar and amplifier from materials at home and played bedroom concerts to an imaginary audience. The cassette player supplied the sound. Seeing Saturday Cowboys at Os Rock in Fjellheim in 1981 showed me what a real concert could be.

Os Rock Klubb became our meeting place. With Jan Tore Finnema’s drums, my first bass and a borrowed guitar, Fluelik began rehearsing. We learned songs by local punk bands and played our own song during a school dance. When Jan Tore left, Pez joined us on drums and the band became Kortzlutning. In April 1984 we supported The Cheaters and Elektrisk Regn at Fjellheim. Suddenly the boys who had listened from the sidelines had a place on the bill.
